Event and Artworks
The event which I went to is Sarah Brady's graduate solo show. The above is a brief introduction to the background of her art pieces. Below is one of her artworks, and it is my favorite one. The picture is only a quarter of the art piece. This art piece constantly moves due to the effect of sounds. It definitely is an art piece related to technology. When I first saw it, I was confused and do not know what message this art piece delivers. However, after staring at it for several minutes, I kind of got the meaning. First, it constantly changes its form. The form in this very second is different from the form in the very last second. It is the same as how the world works: everything changes constantly. As the picture states above, the main theme of this exhibition is the disintegration. As the object moves, the metals in the middle move toward the sides. At the end of the time, there will be nothing left in the center. If the fact that the object stayed in the center is viewed as an integration, then the process of the metal leaving the center is the disintegration.

The second art piece consists of blue, pink, and some purple. It is absolutely beautiful, and the shadow inside this picture below is me. I did have a selfie with Sarah Brady, but I accidentally deleted it. Hopefully, this can serve as a proof. In my interpretation, another theme of this exhibition is about changes, since the wall's color changes constantly. I was talking with another art graduate about this art piece, and he told that the color was controlled by the music. How cool that is. Being surrounds by the huge chunk of colors feels very nice. Another part that I like this Desma wall is that people are involved in it. The shadows of people are on the walls, and it is definitely a nice way to connect people with art works.
Another art piece is the two columns, and you can hear the battleground sound when you stand between them. It looks simple, elegant, and beautiful. My interpretation of the relationship between this art piece and disintegration is that battles often disintegrate friendship, family, and peace. One way to illustrates battle field is through its sounds. It is quite real when you hear the gun shoots. Below is the picture of the top of this art piece. It is quite tall, almost reaching the ceiling.
The last art piece is the picture below. I always like triangle, and I think that it is a beautiful shape. It is made from some precious underground metal. This shows disintegration through the layers. Imagine people dig this metal out from the ground, the digging act itself is a form disintegration. The shape of each layer is random, and this might suggests that the process of disintegration is also random.
I strongly encourage students go to this kind of events. The art pieces are absolutely beautiful. It is inspirational since you can talk with people there. Different people have different perspectives on the same art piece. I believe that there does not exist a single right way to interpret an art piece. When I was talking with Sarah, we discussed the reasons behind some of her artworks. This kind of events benefit students because that they help students to develop a sense about Desma arts. I believe when we see art works for the first time, we could not see the emotions expressed within them right away. However, as we see more art works, we start to develop a artistic sense and know what is beautiful. Because of this event, I also want to do something related to disintegration on my midterm project. There are so many things connected with disintegration. For example, the human life itself can be viewed as a form of integration. It fells apart as people grow in age.
