Week 3
The Robotics and Art
Technology and art are often related. For example, iPhone undeniably is an art piece. When its designer spent several years on a product, it is hard to deny its beauty. Technology often creates arts. For example, one of the art projects exhibited in the Modern Museum is created by projectors. The first one is an artwork created by projectors. Photography is a form of art. People often use technology to photoshop their photographs for better effects. For example, the lighting might be bad for night view photographs. However, photoshop can avoid this problem and create better artworks.

Micromagic Systems' Robotics Lab (MSRL) allows people to shop for different parts and make the robots by themselves. As a result, people can create their own art pieces. I like how they call it Micromagic, because I think that art itself is a magic.
Personally, I think that Walter Benjamin has a strong opinion on the technology. For example, he suggests the technology's negativity through describing the misuses of it: "instead of dropping seeds from airplanes, it drops incendiary bombs over cities" (XIV). It is definitely a strong example. Also, he suggests that mass production often kills the originally of the art works. I view it from two perspectives. The first one is without the copyright. For example, people may buy paintings and do not know who painted the paintings. With the copyright, the mass production is not the same as the original. It is definitely not as detailed as the original also. In the end, it is only a mass production.

One movie that I watched which is related to industrial revolution is Les Misérables. Near the beginning of the movie, people react to the industrial revolution. People hate the machines and want to destroy them. They feel that the machines take away jobs from them. That was a negative reaction for technological advancements.
