Extra Credit Event 2

Last week, I went to a fantastic Desma event named "delete me". There are many artworks in this exhibition. Below is a picture of the entrance. It shows projects made by graduating art students.

There are more than ten artworks, and there are three which I find particularly appealing.
The first one is named Knicker Twister, and it is my favorite art piece. This artwork is in a form of the tree. Its materials have only one color, white. White is generally a symbol of pureness, but the person who created this artwork put three rolls of toilet paper at the bottom of the tree. It is an irony. By pulling the string, the tree starts to twist. There are many random things about the tree. For example, it has many cutes Disney characters . As shown in the picture on the left, the woman in the screen barely wear anything. This sense of sexually and Disney characters' innocences contradict, and it is an interesting combination between childhood and adulthood.

There are lights, blue and red, which reminds me of Star Wars as there are two swords in it. There are water running around this project, and I was confused about the water's meaning. So I talked with the creator of this project, and he said that this project is about that people make small issues into big issues. I think that I understand him. People get mad about unimportant details. When people see things which they don't understand even though that certain things might be irrelevant to them, they still become mad. For example, I feel that some people's anger toward homosexuals can be an example of getting mad about unimportant details.

The second artwork which I really like is named USER_IS_PRESENT by Kate Hollenbach. This project shows the perspective from a phone's view. For example, what does the phone see when we send text messages to our friends? This project brings life to phones and allows people to view the world from a phone's perspective. In the picture on the left, the only thing which the phone sees is the keyboard, and that might be really boring for the phone. There are three images inside this project. The one on the left is the outside camera and there is another which is the inside camera. This project shows the daily life of phone. I think that this project also raises the awareness of how much time people spend on their phones.

There is another artwork, which I think, encourages people when they are stuck. The lady in the right image is also the creator of this project. I feel that the steps which takes to organize the ropes are symbols of the steps in life. For most of them, life is messed up if we do nothing. For example, when we are child, we might die if we don't eat, which is represented as a dead knot in this rope. Also, people should always work hard and put effort into their lives. One of the rules of organizing the rope is that she can only change the messed up end, but not the side which is already organized. I think that life shares this character in which people can only move forward and not backwards.

I really recommend this event, and there are still so many artworks which I didn't talk about here. As I was inside the exhibition, I feel that some of the artworks could actually be inside a museum. I think that the existence of artworks inspires people and encourages them to view the world from a different perspective.
