Week 1

There are two cultures inside the UCLA campus: the north campus and the south campus. The north is the beautiful campus, where people write essays for their grades. The south-campus students study engineer and math, and their grades are determined by exam scores. I am a second-year applied math major, and I feel that there exists a culture between them. For example, I took English composition, history, and art classes though I am a math major.

Art and technology are often combined. For example, iPhone is not only a product of technology but also an art piece. The simplicity and color choice make it an art. Also, I personally think that the pictures of universe are an art. However, without the development of technology, we can’t see the universe. Therefore, the technology and art are closely connected.

The reading materials and lecture videos show me connections that I never thought before. The two cultures idea was interesting and I enjoy learning this week’s materials.
